Psystar has claimed to have released an Open Computer.  The Open Computer is a $399 computer that runs Apple’s Leopard OS.  This is not allowed by Apple’s EULA, or software license agreement, something I will mention later in this article.  Is this computer too good to be true.  Well, it may be.  After Wired Magazine’s blog Gadget Lab searched for the company on Google maps they got this image.

Is the company headquarters really a suburban home?  I highly doubt it. (this is the previous address given by Psystar it was changed to an office building later)

A spokesman from Psystar, who would only call himself Robert, claimed that Apple is violating US monopoly laws.  He said “What if Honda said that, after you buy their car, you could only drive it on the roads they said you could? What if Microsoft said you could only install Windows on Dell computers?” (this occurred in an interview with Information Week).  The fact that he would not give his last name furthers my suspicion that this company is a scam.

There is even more evidence against Psystar.  Charles Arthur from The Guardian researched the company and found out that it did not exist until the week of April 9th.  As mentioned in the Wired article, the website did not exist, nor did they have a presence in the Miami Chamber of Commerce (Psystar is located in Miami).

Also, rather recently the Psystar website was shutdown due to the fact that they were “unable process any credit card transactions.” (this was originally found by Gadget Lab reader Richard)

Gizmodo did a little digging on their own and found the location of “Psystar”.

This must be a fake, but we cannot know for certain.  Stay tuned for further details on this mystery before buying anything from them.
